AN ACT to increase the corporate powers heretofore
granted to the Patapsco company by the act passed
at January session, eighteen hundred and fifty-three,
chapter one hundred and thirty-seven, entitled, an act
to incorporate the Patapsco company, by authorising
the said company to make a rail road and establish a
line of boats.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Patapsco company be and it is
hereby vested with full power and authority to make,
construct, maintain and to keep in repair a rail road
from some suitable point or points on the lands of said
company, to connect with the Baltimore and Ohio
rail road at some point or points east of the Relay
House, with as many tracks as the president, and direc-
tors of the Patapsco company may deem necessary or
convenient, to be of a width of not more than sixty-six
feet, exclusive of the necessary slopes of embankments
and excavations of said road, excepting only at such
place or places where it may be deemed by said presi-
dent and directors necessary, convenient or useful to
Occupy a greater width for the construction of its neces-
sary sidelings, turn-outs, depots or stations; and the
Patapsco company aforesaid may cause to be made or
may contract with others for making said rail road, or
any part of it, and they and their agents or those with
whom they may contract, or their agents, may enter
upon and use and excavate any lands which may be
wanted for the site of the said roads or the erection of
warehouses or other works necessary for the said road
or for its construction or repair; and that they may
build bridges with such draws as will enable such boats
or vessels as now usually navigate the Patapsco river to
pass said bridges, fix scales and weights, lay rails, may
may take and use earth, gravel, stone, timber or other
materials which may be needed for the construction
and repair of the said road or any of its works, and may
make and construct all works whatever which may be
necessary and expedient, in order to the proper comple-
tion and maintenance of the said road, and may also
own and employ steamboats or other vessels to connect
