be made to seize and sell said free negro under the
act of the General Assembly of eighteen hundred
and thirty-one, chapter three hundred and twenty-
three, and it is proper under the circumstances that
the provisions of said law should not be enforced
against said free negro; Therefore,

Authority to
remain.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That it shall and may he lawful for
William Seymore, a free negro who removed into the
State of Maryland, since the passage of the act of the
General Assembly of Maryland, of eighteen hundred
thirty-one, chapter three hundred and twenty-three, to
continue and remain within the limits of the State of
Maryland, and that the provisions of the first section of
the said law shall not apply to the said William Sey-
inure, but he shall be permitted to remain within said
State, and that none of the penalties and disabilities of
the said section, of the said act, shall be deemed as
having attached to the case of said free negro, but he
shall be in all respects exempted therefrom.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT imposing a tax on dogs, to protect the raising
of sheep in Kent county.

To be taxed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That from and after the passage of
this act, all dogs in Kent county, shall be taxed at
the following rates, that is to say, for every dog kept by
any person or persons, the owner or owners shall pay
annually the sum of fifty cents for the first dog, and
for each and every one thereafter, the sum twenty-five
cents, and it shall be duty of the commissioners, and
they are hereby authorised and required to cause an
accurate list to be taken annually by some person or
persons appointed by them, for that purpose in the said
county, of all dogs of three months old and upwards,
