town, until the age of eighteen years or marriage, upon
the terms that they protect, clothe and educate her in a
plain and useful manner and no more.

Power to hire
out children.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the trustees or any
one of them, when requested by the board of managers,
be, and are hereby authorised and empowered, to hire out
any female child entrusted to their care, or bound to
them upon such terms as may be thought by the mana-
gers must judicious and most to the advantage of the
said child.

Trustees may

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the trustees, or
any two of them, when requested by the board of man-
agers, be, and are hereby authorised and empowered, to
hire out the children or orphans, that may be bound to
them by force and authority of this act, or may be un-
der their care and charge, until they attain the age of
eighteen years or be married.

Duty of trus-
tees.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of said trustees, in binding out said children, to
require wages for their services after they attain the age
of sixteen years, to be paid over to the said children or
orphans, as the case may be, when she or they shall
respectively be entitled to their discharge from service,
providing that nothing herein contained be considered
as abridging the security afforded to such persons by the
laws concerning apprentices.

In force.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That I his act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 105.

AN ACT to establish primary schools in Calvert coun-
ty, and to consolidate the Academy Fund of said
county with the Primary School Fund.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Thomas J. Grahame, James T.
Briscoe and John W. Spicknall, of election district

number three, in Calvert county, be, and the same are
hereby appointed primary school commissioners for

said district; that Nathaniel Duke, William Macdaniel
and Charles S. Parran, of election district number two,
