CHAPTER 344.

AN ACT giving to the Criminal Court of Balti-
more, and to the Circuit Courts of this State,
Criminal Jurisdiction in all Cases.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the judges of the Criminal court

of Baltimore, and of the respective Circuit courts of
this State, and persons acting by authority as judges in
their stead, shall have full power and authority to try,
according to law, all and every person and persons who
have committed or shall commit, or stand charged, ac-
cording to law, with having committed any offence
whatsoever, although it may subject such person or
persons to the pains of death; and upon conviction of
the offender or offenders, in due course of law, said
judges are authorised and empowered to give judgment
according to the nature and quality of the crime or

offence.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 345.

AN ACT to Incorporate Calvert College, near New
Windsor, in Carroll county.

WHEREAS, Andrew H. Baker, Theodore Blume,
James P. Nelson, James F. Maguire and Louis Diet-
man, have set forth to this General Assembly, that they
have been for several years associated for the education

of youth, the pursuit of science, and the general diffu-
sion of knowledge, and have prayed to be incorpo-
rated ;

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Andrew H. Baker, Theodore
Blume, James P. Nelson, Thomas D. Dougherty and
Louis Dielman, and those who may hereafter become
members of said association and their successors, after
the passage of this act, be, and they are hereby created
and declared to be a body corporate and politic, by the
name and style of Calvert College, and by that name
to have succession, and be capable, at law and in equity,
to sue and be sued, to plead and be impleaded in any
