parents, and whenever, in their judgment, the parents
are unable to pay, they shall admit their children free.

CHAP. 168.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That the trustees of

any school district shall have full power to sell any
school house or lot within their respective districts, and
give a good and valid deed for the same, whenever
the public interest of the district may require it; Pro-
vided, such sale may be authorised by the legal voters

of said district, and said trustees shall appropriate the
proceeds of said sale to the purchase of another lot, to the
building of another school house, or moke such other
disposition of it as the legal voters of said district may
determine.

SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the board of school commissioners, to ren-
der the school fund as productive as possible, by keep-
ing the principal at interest, through the medium of
safe and productive stocks or otherwise; they shall,
whenever it is deemed expedient, proceed by law
against. all persons indebted to the school fund of the
county, and shall annually appoint a treasurer, who,
shall give ample security, by bond or otherwise, for
the faithful performance of his duly, and who shall
be allowed such salary or commission as said board
may deem proper.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duly of the county commissioners to provide the board

of school commissioners, with a room in the court
house, and to fit up the same in a manner suitable for
the transaction of business, and for the depository and
safe keeping of the records and papers of said board.

SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That until the primary
schools are in operation, the board of school commis-
sioners may, if they deem it proper, divide the amount

of the academy fund, among the several academies in
the county heretofore entitled by law to receive the
same.

SEC. 17. And be it enacted, That all loans hereto-
fore made by the commissioners of tax for Carroll
county, or by the present commissioners of primary
schools for said county, are hereby declared to be, and
are made as valid and effectual in law, as if the same
had been especially authorised by law.
