tion, for the good behavior of such person for any time
not exceeding one year thereafter,
2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the mayor of
the city of Baltimore Be, and he is hereby authorised
to exercise within the limits of the city of Baltimore,
all the powers hereby given to anyone of the aforesaid
justices; and to issue warrants, hear, determine,
and commit in the same manner, and in like cases as
is herein before mentioned; and may direct the war-
rants by him issued to any city constable; who is here-
by authorised and empowered to execute the same in
as ample a manner as other constables of Baltimore
county are authorised and empowered to execute war-
rants issued by any one of the associate justices afore-
said. And to ascertain what persons shall be deem-
ed vagrants, vagabonds, and disorderly persons with-
in the intention of this act.

3. BE IT ENACTED, That every person who has no
visible means of maintenance from property or per-
sonal labor, and lives idle without employment; and
every person who wanders about and begs in the street
or from door to door; and every person who wanders
abroad and lodges in out-houses, market-places or the
open air, and cannot give a good account of the means
by which he or she procures a living; and every jug-
gler, fortune-teller or common gambler shall be ad-
judged a vagrant, vagabond, or disorderly person,
within the meaning of this act.

4. AND BE It ENACTED, That any person
convicted of any offence within the terms or contem-
plation of this act, may be adjudged to work and la-
bor in the penitentiary for any time not exceeding one
year,

late and Discipline the Militia of this State.

WHEREAS, the organization of the cavalry of this
state under field officers, would conduce to the welfare
and production of an effective force that might be ex-
tremely useful for sudden emergency: — Therefore,

Preamble.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the slate is declared to be, and is hereby
laid off into eleven regimental (cavalry) districts, and one
extra-squadron, to wit: Washington and Frederick coun-
ties shall constitute the first district; Montgomery and
Prince-George's counties, the second district; Calvert
