CHAPTER 555.

CHAP. 556.

An act authorising the Commissioners of Howard
District to levy a sum of money to build a Jail in
said District.

Passed
Mar. 9, 1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of said district, to be

elected in the full of eighteen hundred and fifty, or their
successors, be and are hereby authorised and empowered
whenever in their discretion they may think proper to levy
a tax upon the assessable property within the limits of said
district, for the purpose of erecting a safe and secure

jail therein, on such site as in the judgment of said
commissioners may be deemed best; provided, that the
sum to be levied by virtue of this act, shall not exceed
one thousand dollars.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners shall have full power and authority to contract
for, direct and superintend the building or erection of
said jail.

CHAPTER 556.

To contract.

An act to abolish the Levy Court of Prince George's
County, and to provide for the election of Commis-
sioners for said county.

1850.

SECTION 1. Re it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the first Wednes-
day in October, eighteen hundred and fifty, the levy
court of Prince George's county, be and the same is
hereby abolished.

Abolished.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That on the first Wednes-
day of October next, and on the first Wednesday in Oc-
tober, every third year thereafter, all persons in Prince
George's county, entitled to vote for delegates to the
General Assembly, shall vote, by ballot, in their several
election districts, for seven persons to be nominated and
