CHAPTER 498.

An act to incorporate Cecil County Rail Road Com-
pany.

Commissioners
to receive sub-
scriptions.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That John Simpers, Thomas S. Thom-
as, John Owens, John Conard, Jethro J. McCullough,
George McCullough, John Patridge, Joseph Haines
and John Carhart, be and they are hereby appointed
commissioners, under the direction of a majority of
whom, subscriptions may be received to the capital
stock of the rail road company, hereby incorporated,
and they, or a majority of them, may cause books to
be opened at such tunes and places as they may di-
rect, for the purpose of receiving subscriptions to the
capital stock of said company, alter having given
notice by advertisement for at least three successive
weeks, in the newspapers of the town of Elkton, and
two newspapers in the city of Baltimore, of the time
and places of opening the same, and that after the
first opening of the said books, they shall be kept
open in the town of North east for at least six succes-
sive days, from ten o'clock, in the morning, until
six o'clock, in the evening, and if at the expira-
tion of said period such subscription to the capi-
tal stock of said company, as is necessary in
the opinion of the said commissioners, to com-
mence and prosecute the said rail road, shall not
have been obtained, the said commissioners or a ma-
jority of them may cause the said books to be opened
from time to time, after the expiration of the said six
days, for the space of three weeks thereafter, or until
the sum necessary as aforesaid, shall have been sub-
scribed, and if any of the said commissioners shall
die, resign or refuse to act during the continuance of
the duties devolved upon them by this act, another or
others may be appointed in his or their stead by the
said commissioners, or a majority of them.

Capital stock.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital slock
of the said rail road company, shall be one hundred
and fifty thousand dollars, in shares of fifty dollars
each, which may be subscribed for by any corpora-
tion, firm or individuals, and as soon as one thousand
shares of the said capital stock shall have been sub-
scribed, the subscribers, their successors and assigns,
shall be and they are hereby declared to be incor-
porated into a company, by the name and the style of
Cecil County Rail Road Company, and by that name
