LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 492.

officers as they shall deem necessary to manage the af-

fairs of said company, to serve until the first Monday of,
January thereafter, and until a new election, and to
make such bye-laws as they shall deem necessary, and
on the first Monday of January in every year, or within
ten days thereafter, said company shall meet for the
same purposes, at such place as the president and man-
agers shall appoint, and in all elections by stockholders,
each share shall be entitled to one vote, but no person
or company shall have more than ten votes.

Incorporated,
etc.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the stockholders in
said company be and they are hereby created, and cre-
ated into a body politic and corporate, by the name
and style of the Bel-Air Turnpike company, and by that
name shall have perpetual succession, and all the privi-
leges and franchises incident to a corporation, and shall
be capable of sueing and of being sued, answering and
being answered, in any court of law or equity.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted. That the sums so sub-
scribed, shall be paid to the president and managers
aforesaid, in such instalments and at such times as they
may appoint, giving one months notice of the payment
so required.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the president and
managers be and they are hereby authorised to appoint
five commissioners, who or a majority of whom agree-
ing, shall lay out the road from the northwest terminus
of the Baltimore and Harford Turnpike Road, to the
town of Bel-Air, and after having laid out said road,
shall make a plat thereof, and file the same in the office
of the clerk of Harford county court, to be recorded,
and said commissioners, before the act as such, shall take
an oath to locale said road according to the best of their
skill and judgment, and that they are not interested in
any land through which said road shall pass.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That said road shall
be opened according to the location made by the com-
missioners, if approved of by me board of directors,
sixty feet wide, of which at least twenty shall be an
artificial road, composed of stone, gravel, earth, or other
material, and erect and keep up bridges over the
streams of water crossing the same, and if the said road
shall be made by said company, the distance of seven
miles, the said company shall be entitled to set up two
toll gales thereon, and to charge tolls thereat, as herein-
after provided, and in case the said road shall not extend
beyond the distance of two and a half miles, then said
