In force.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That this act of in-
corporation shall enure for thirty years, unless sooner
repealed by the General Assembly.

An act to Incorporate the Baltimore House Building
Association, Number One.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, John Gerhard Kemper, Augustus Bal-
lauf, John Johnsons, George Philip Orth, Martin Ham-
merbacher, John Henninger, Herman Meyer, Heinrich
Strober, and others, of the city of Baltimore, have form-
ed themselves into an association, under the name and
style of the Baltimore House Building Association,
number one; and whereas, the object of the said associ-
ation is to encourage economy and frugality, whereby
the members thereof may, in an easy and secure man-
ner, accumulate a sum sufficient to build or purchase a
domicil for their families — Therefore,

Incorporated,

&c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the aforesaid members of said
association, as well as those who hereafter, according to
the constitution and bye-laws of said association, shall
become members thereof, be and they are hereby created
and made a body politic and corporate, by the name and
style mentioned in the preamble to this act, and by its
name shall have succession for twenty years, and shall
be capable by law to hold and dispose of property, to
sue and be sued, to plead and be impleaded, answer
and defend, and be answered and defended, in all courts
of law and equity, in this State, or elsewhere, to re-
ceive and make all deeds, transfers, contracts, cove-
nants, conveyances and grants whatsoever, to have,
make, and use a common seal, and the same to break,
alter and renew at pleasure, and generally to do every
other act or thing necessary to carry into effect the pro-
visions of this act, and promote the object and design of
the said corporation.

Duty of the
secretary.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the secretary of said association, to keep a book con-
taining a copy of this act. and of such constitution and
bye-laws as may be established for the government of
said association, and that all persons, who may be elect-
ed members thereof, shall upon signing their, names
