to as many votes as the shares of which he shall be
owner.

CHAP. 438.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted. That the said company
shall have power to do all things that, an individual citi-
zen may lawfully do; provided, it be not contrary to the
provisions herein contained.

General powers.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be construed to allow this corporation to issue any
note, device, scrip, or token, to be used as a currency,
and the legislature hereby reserves the right to alter,
amend or repeal this act, at pleasure.

CHAPTER 438.

Banking forbid.

An act to incorporate the Baltimore Building Society,
of Saint Joseph.

Passed Mar. 9,

1850.

WHEREAS, Joseph M. Keller, Peter Volz, Adolph
Storch, Joseph Eberle, Joseph Acker, John Weber
and others, of the city of Baltimore, have formed
themselves into an association, under the name and
style of the Baltimore Building Society of Saint
Joseph; and whereas, the object of the said associa-
tion is to encourage economy and frugality, whereby
the members thereof may in an easy and secure man-
ner accumulate a sufficient sum to build or purchase a
domicil for their families — Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the aforesaid members of said
association, as well as those who hereafter, according to
the constitution and bye-laws of said association,
shall become members thereof, be and they are here-
by created and made a body politic and corporate, by
the name and style mentioned in the preamble to
this act, and by its name, shall have succession for
twenty years, and shall he capable by law to hold
and dispose of property, to sue and be sued, to plead
and be impleaded, answer and defend and be answer-
ed and defended in all courts of law and equity, in
this State or elsewhere, to receive and make all deeds,
transfers, contracts, covenants conveyances and
grants, whatsoever, to have, make and use a com-
mon seal, and the same to break, alter and renew at
pleasure, and generally to do every other act or thing
necessary to parry into effect the provisions of this
