tween the twentieth day of April and thirtieth day of
May, in each and every year.

CHAP. 396.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That every supervisor
before he proceeds to work or repair the public road,
shall give at least ten days notice, by advertisements
set up in at least three of the most public places in
his neighborhood of the time and place he intends to
commence work.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That no supervisor shall
proceed to work upon the public road with less than
ten, or more than twenty hands on any day during
the time he may be engaged in the repair of the pub-
lic road, without the consent or agreement of the
board of commissioners of Howard district, and the
board of commissioners are hereby required to ex-
ercise a sound discretion in this particular, and en-
dorse the warrants of the supervisors accordingly.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That any supervisor
hereafter to be appointed in Howard district refusing
to comply with or neglecting to carry out the provis-
ions of this act, his office shall be deemed and con-
sidered as vacated, and it shall be the duty of the
board of commissioners for Howard district, and they
are hereby required at their first meeting after the
thirtieth day of May, to appoint some other person or
persons to fill said vacancy or vacancies, and the per-
son or persons so appointed, shall proceed forthwith
to work and repair the section or districts of road to
which he or they shall be appointed, agreeable to the
provisions of the third section of this act.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts
of acts, inconsistent with, or repugnant to this act,
be and the same are hereby repealed.

1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the county commissioners for
Allegany county, be and they are hereby authorised and
empowered, at their discretion, to assess and levy on the
