1849.

free white male citizen, residing within four miles of
the school house of the said corporation, who may
have contributed in any way to the establishment and
support of the said school, shall have a vote in the
election of trustees, and that an annual election for
seven trustees, shall be held at such time and place
as may be prescribed by the bye-laws, and upon omis-
sion to elect, the trustees shall hold till successors be
elected.

CHAP. 312.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the property now
belonging to what is called the Independence School,
in Cecil county, shall be vested in the corporation by
this act.

erty.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
be construed so as to authorise the said corporation to
issue any note, token, device, scrip, or other evidence
of debt to be used as currency.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act of incor-
poration shall enure for thirty years from its passage,
and that the legislature reserves to itself the right to
alter or annul this act of incorporation at pleasure.

An act to Incorporate the German Western Aid Union,
of Baltimore.

Feb. 28, 1850.

WHEREAS, Gottleib Betz, John Steinweg, John
Whrig, Frederick Steep, William Seip, John Schult-
heis, August Heil, Mathias Heinzelman, Henry Dee-
hard, Henry Sander, Wilhelm Kothe and others, of the
city of Baltimore, have formed themselves into an asso-
ciation under the name and style of the German West-
ern Aid Union of Baltimore; and whereas, the object of
the said association is to encourage economy and fru-
gality, whereby the members thereof may, in an easy
and secure manner, accumulate a sum sufficient to build
or purchase a domicil for their families — Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the aforesaid members of said as-
sociation, as well as those who, hereafter, according to
the constitution and bye-laws of said association, shall
become members thereof, be and (hey are hereby cre-
ated and made a body politic and corporate, by the name
and style mentioned in the preamble to this act, and by
