CHAP. 248.

in the presence of any other person choosing to attend
the same.

How construed.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That this charter and
act of incorporation, and every part thereof, shall be
good and available in all things, in the laws, accord-
ing to the true intent and meaning thereof, and shall be
construed, reputed and adjudged, in all cases, most fa-
vorable in behalf, and for the best benefit and behoof
of the said trustees and their successors, so as most ef-
fectually to answer the end of this corporation towards
the general advancement and promotion of religious
knowledge, science and literature.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act shall be so construed as to authorise this corporation
to issue any note, token, device, scrip, or other evidence
of debt, to be used as currency.

Reservation.


SEC. 17. And be it enacted, That the Legislature
reserves to itself the right to change, alter or repeal this
act of incorporation at pleasure.

CHAPTER 248.

Passed Feb. 26,

1850.

An act to Incorporate the Potomac Transportation
Company.

Incorporated,

&c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Thomas G. Harris, James Hunter,
Samuel Humma, William Browne, and Joseph H.
Piper, and all other persons who may become inter-
ested in the stock of said company, which is herein
authorised to be created, be and they are hereby con-
stituted and made a corporation and body politic, by
the name of the Potomac Transportation Company,
and by that name shall have succession, and shall be
capable in law to sue and be sued, in any court of law
or equity, to have and use a common seal, and at
pleasure to alter the same, and generally to exercise
such acts as shall be deemed proper and necessary for
establishing their line or lines of canal boats, for the
transportation of coal, iron, merchandize, and all ar-
ticles of commerce.

Capital stock.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital stock
of said company shall not exceed one hundred thou-
sand dollars, in shares of five hundred dollars each,
