CHAPTER 58.

An act entitled, an act to allow the Clerk of Prince
George's County Court, to grant manumission papers
to Thomas Jones, a free man of color, in Prince George's
County.

Feb. 7, 1848.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the clerk of the court of Prince George's county
be, and be is hereby authorised and directed, to issue
and grant to Thomas Jones, a free man of color in
Prince George's county, papers of manumission, upon the
said Jones paying to the said clerk the usual fees al-
lowed by law in such cases.

CHAPTER 59.

Clerk to grant
manumission.

An act authorising a certain portion of the school funds
belonging to Caroline and Dorchester counties, to be ap-
plied for the benefit of a school to be located in Fed-
eralsburg.

Feb. 7, 1848.

WHEREAS, it is represented that the inhabitants, both
of Caroline and Dorchester counties, residing in and
near Federalsburg, desiring to establish a joint school
in that place, as it would be more convenient for them to
send their children to such school than to any other
school in either county; and whereas, it is necessary to
the establishment of such a school in said village, that
the school funds of each county should be so distributed
as equally to accommodate the citizens of said village,
belonging in either county; and whereas, in consequence
of a want of authority in the school authorities of each
county to apply any part of the money belonging to
either to the establishment of any such school; and
whereas, legislative aid is solicited from citizens of each
of said counties in and near Federalsburg — Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the authorities having charge of the
public school fund in Caroline and Dorchester counties,
respectively, in making the apportionment of the public
school money amongst the schools in each of said
counties may, and it shall be their duty to distribute and
appropriate to the aforesaid school, one half as much as
is given to any similar or located school in the lower
