LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 68.

any corporation or body politic within this State in like
cases may or can do and perform; and the said trustees
and their successors are hereby authorised to have one
common seal, and the same to break, alter and renew at
pleasure.

Trustees to fill
vacancies.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That whenever any of the
trustees of said schools shall die, resign, or refuse to act
or qualify, or remove from the county, or shall neglect
to attend the meetings of the said board more than one
year, the remaining trustees, or a majority of them, shall
elect by ballot, a person or persons to fill such vacancy
or vacancies.

Time of meet-
ing.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, or a
majority of them, shall meet for the first time on the se-
cond Monday of April next, or as soon thereafter as may
be convenient, and qualify by taking the following oath,
to wit: I, A. B., do swear that I will duly and faithfully
discharge the trust committed to me, as trustees of the
Buckingham Academy and Female Seminary, of Berlin,
to the best of my skill and knowledge, so help me God,
which oath any justice of the peace may administer.

Trustees to
appoint teach-
ers.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said trustees and
their successors, or a majority of them, shall have full
power and authority to make fundamental ordinances for
the government of the school or seminary aforesaid, and
the education of youth, and to appoint such person or
persons as they, or a majority of them, may think pro-
per to be teacher or teachers of said schools.

To meet
twice a year.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said trustees and
their successors, or a majority of them, shall meet at
least twice in each year, at such time as shall be ap-
pointed by their own ordinances, in order to examine the
progress of the students and scholars, and to hear and
determine on all complaints and appeals, and all matters
touching the discipline of the seminary, and the good
and the wholesome executions of their ordinances, on
all which occasions, a majority at least of the trustees
shall compose a quorum.

Transfer, &c.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all and singular the
property, real, personal or mixed, all rights and credits,
donations, trusts, bequests, in any manner heretofore vest-
ed in the trustees of Buckingham Academy, or the trustees
of Berlin Academy, or held to or for the use of either of
them be, and the same is hereby vested and transferred
to the trustees of Buckingham Academy and Female
Seminary of Berlin.
