1846.

member shall be ascertained, and in the event of such
member or members shall fail, negect or refuse to pay

his, her or their proportion of such loss within sixty days

from the time of ratification, it shall and may be lawful

for the said society to issue an execution upon the said

judgment or judgments so confessed by such member or

members, for the amount of such assessed proportion,

which amount shall be endorsed on said execution by the

clerk, under the order of the president or secretary; and

the said party against whom said execution may have

been issued, shall forfeit all benefit under his, her or their

insurance, until such assessment shall have been paid

and satisfied.

CHAP. 357.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That in all cases where

the owners of slaves insured under this act, shall possess
or hold no real estate, the said society shall be authoris-

ed to require the premium note of such person or persons
to be endorsed or signed by such surety or sureties as

shall be by them approved; which notes shall be sub-
ject to the assessments made in cases where losses shall
be incurred; and in case the party shall refuse to pay the
proportion of loss assessed on such note within sixty days
after notice thereof, the president shall cause a judgment

to be entered up on said note in the office of the clerk of
the county where such person or persons may reside,
and shall direct an execution to be issued on said judg-

ment, and on such execution or executions the assessed
proportion or proportions shall be endorsed, and the par-

ty against whom such execution or executions may or

shall be issued, shall forfeit all the benefits of said socie-

ty until such assessment shall have been paid and

satisfied.

in full force until repealed by the Legislature.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That from and after the first day of May next,

it shall not be lawful for any person or persons to act as

the agent or agents within this State for any individual
