CHAP. 349.

thousand dollars, or in gross, so payable out of said
tobacco fund the sum of forty thousand dollars; provided,
that the commissioner of loans shall not dispose of the
stock hereby authorised to be created at a less sum than
the par value thereof.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all the proceeds of the
sale of the said slock shall be paid into the treasury ;
and the treasurer, out of the sum so provided, shall pay
to the said tobacco inspectors such amount quarterly as
they shall respectively, on oath, certify to him they have
expended, over and above their receipts in the quarter,
in the necessary execution of the duties required of them
by law; provided, such payments do not exceed the
sums limited by the proviso to the first section of this

act.

Repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the sixth section of
the act of December session, eighteen hundred and forty-
five, chapter ninety-seven be, and the same is hereby
repealed.

CHAPTER 349.

Commission-
ers to levy.

An act entitled, an act for the more prompt and economi-
cal collection of the State and County Taxes, in the
County of Baltimore.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners for Baltimore county,
in making out their levy for the year eighteen hundred
and forty-seven, shall levy upon the assessable property
of Baltimore county, on or before the fifteenth day of
January, in each and every year, six per centum, in the
same manner as they levy for State and county taxes, to
defray the expenses for the collection of State and coun-
ty taxes.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That from and after the
levy aforesaid has been made for the year eighteen hun-
dred and forty-seven, it shall be the privilege, and the
tax payers of said county are hereby authorised to pay
over to the treasurer of said county their State and county
taxes, and he is hereby authorised to receive the same,

and as soon as the said levy shall have been completed,
the said commissioners shall cause to be published, in
at least two of the newspapers publishcd in the city of
