CHAPTER 207.

An act to incorporate the Clearspring Union Band of
Clearspring, Washington County.

CHAP. 207.

4, 1847.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That John S. Matthews, Robert M. Small,
William Gardner, J. A. C. Hower, James H. Kerr, Ja-
cob Sheets, James E. Boyd, Peter L. Snyder, William
B. Snyder, Samuel Small, John D. Masters, Montraville
Draper, and others, that now are, or may become here-
after members of said corporation herein created, or may
be admitted into said corporation, agreeably to the con-
stitution, rules and by-laws of the same, and their succes-
sors, are hereby declared to be a community, corporation

and body politic, by the name, style and title of the
Clearspring Union Band, and by that name they and their
successors, shall and may be capable in law, to have, re-

ceive and retain to them, and their successors, property,
real, personal or mixed, also devises or bequests of any

person, bodies corporate or politic, capable of making
the same, and the same at their pleasure to transfer or

dispose of in such manner, as they may think proper;
provided, that the said corporation shall not at any time

hold or possess property, real, personal or mixed, exceed-
ing in value the sum of two thousand dollars.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation

and their successors, by the name and style and title
aforesaid, shall be thereafter capable in law to sue and
be sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and be answer-
ed unto, defend and be defended in all or any courts of
justice, and before all or any judges, officers or persons
whatsover, in all and singular actions, matters or de-
mands whatsoever.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall have power to make and use a common seal, and
the same to break, alter and renew at pleasure; and also
to assemble and meet at such times and places, as they
may agree upon, and to ordain and establish and put into
execution, such by-laws, ordinances and regulations, as
to them shall seem conducive to the interest of the said

corporation, and necessary to the good government and

contrary to the laws of this State, or of the United
States.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be construed so as to authorise the said corporation
