the right of the General Assembly of Maryland to re-

peal this act at its pleasure.

An act to authorise the Commissioners of the Tax of
Carroll County, to levy a sum of money for the im-
provement of the Court Square and Court Street, in
the town of Westminster, in said County.

Passed March
4, 1847.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of the tax of Carroll
county be, and they are hereby authorised, if they deem
it expedient, to levy a sum of money, not exceeding one
thousand dollars, upon the assessable property of said
county, for the purpose of grading the grounds and
erecting a substantial fence or enclosure around the court-

house, and to grade, pave and improve the street called
Court street, leading from said court-house to the main
street in Westminster, in such manner as will, in their
discretion, be best for the protection and safety of the
public property, and the interest and convenience of the
public.

SEC. 2. And be if enacted, That said commissioners
of the tax, are hereby authorised to appoint or employ
such person or persons as they may think proper for the
purpose of grading, enclosing, paving and improving
said grounds and streets, and allowing and paying such
sum or sums of money out of, and not exceeding the
amount named in the first section of this act, for which
they may contract for the performance of said duties or
services.
