1846. ,

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the espe-
cial duty of the supervisors of the several roads within
said county, to keep in good condition all passes, and

culverts, and bridges, and any accident that may or shall

occur to man or beast, at any bridge, pass or culvert,
by reason of inattention or neglect on the patt of the su-
pervisors, not repairing or mending the said bridge, pass-
or culvert property, which supervisor or supervisors,
upon proof that the accident occurred from his or their
negligence in repairing the same, shall be liable for the
amount of damage, lost time, and so forth, sustained by
such accidents.

CHAP. 195.

Duty of super-
visors of roads.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of
said county shall annually give in charge this act to the
several supervisors appointed by them from time to time;
and if, in the opinion of the said board of commissioners,
additional appropriations, over and above the existing
allowances, should be made for the better keeping of
said bridges, culverts and passes, they are duly autho-
rised to make the additional allowances, and are fully em-
powered to make appropriations for building new bridges,
constructing new culverts, or making passes.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the supervisors of

public roads shall not receive more than one dollar, for
every ten dollars expended upon roads in repairing or
making new roads, as a compensation for services in su-
perintending such outlays.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all acts inconsistent
with the provisions of this act be, and the same is
hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 196.

Repealed.

An act entitled, an act relating to the Primary Schools in
Saint Mary's County.

5, 1847.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners, or a majority of them
of the primary schools of the second and third election
districts of Saint Mary's county be, and they are hereby
authorised to lay off a new school district between the
upper school districts of the second election district, and
the lower school district, of the third election district,
