1846.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
contained shall be construed to prohibit the granting by
the clerk of a license to the proprietor or tenant of the
hotel at Lappori's Cross Roads, the same being a con-
venient and necessary house.

CHAP. 173.

Grant license.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all acts, or parts of

sets of the General Assembly inconsistent with the pro-
visions of this act be, and the same are hereby repealed.

Repealed.

An act for the relief of John B. Slemmons, late Sheriff
and Collector of Somerset County.

Passed March
3, 1847.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That John 13. Slemmons, late sheriff and collector of
Somerset county be, and he is hereby authorised and em-
powered to collect and receive all and any balance or
amount of officer's fees, chancery taxes and fines and
forfeitures and county taxes, which may be due to the
said John B. Slemmons as sheriff and collector aforesaid,
in the same manner, and with the same powers and privi-
leges as are now allowed by law, and in the same man-
ner, and to the same effect, as if the term of office of
the said John B. Slemmons, as sheriff and collector as

aforesaid, had not yet expired; provided, that if any per-
son against whom there is a claim by said John B. Slem-
mons, for officer's fees, chancery taxes, fines and forfei-
tures or county taxes as aforesaid, shall make affidavit
before some justice of the peace of the county aforesaid,
that he, she or they, believes the same to he unjusr, or
that the same had been paid at any previous time to the
person claiming the same, it shall forever bar such claim ;
and provided, that nothing in this act shall be construed
to effect in any way the estate of any deceased person ;
and provided also, that this act shall only continue in force
for one year from its passage.
