1845.

CHAPTER 328.

An act authorising the Levy Court of Caroline County,
to give the collection of the County and State taxes to
one collector, upon certain conditions.

CHAP. 329.

Passed March
9, 1848.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the levy court of
Caroline county, and they are hereby required at the
usual time of appointing a collector or collectors of the
county and State taxes, to give the same to one collector;

provided, one can be obtained who will collect the said
taxes for a commission not exceeding live per centum,
to be collected and paid over as is now provided by
law.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in case a collector
cannot be obtained under the provisions of this act, the
levy court shall forthwith proceed to appoint a collector
or collectors as is now or may be provided by law.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if a collector shall be
appointed under the provisions of the first section of this
act, he shall give good and sufficient bond in such penal-
ty as is now provided by law for the faithful performance
of his duty as collector, to be approved by the levy
court.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That in case the levy court
shall refuse or neglect to appoint a collector under the
provisions of the first section of this art; provided, a col-
lector can be obtained as therein specified, that then and
in that case, the said levy court and each member thereof
on conviction in the county court, shall forfeit and pay a
sum of money not exceeding one hundred dollars, to be
applied to the payment of the State debt.

An act to revive an act passed December session, eighteen
hundred and forty, chapter seventy-nine, an act to in-
corporate a Library Association, in the Town of Jeffer-
son, in Frederick County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the provisions of an act passed Decem-
ber session, eighteen hundred and forty, chapter seventy
