CHAP. 292.

thereafter as may be convenient, after the adoption of
this law, appoint a treasurer, whose duty it shall be to
take charge of all moneys levied on said county by this
act, for the support of primary schools, and the same
pay over to the order of any two of the said commission-

ers; and the said treasurer shall give bond to the State
of Maryland, with such security or securities as may be
approved by the said commissioners, in the penal sum of
eight thousand dollars, for the faithful discharge of the
duties of his office, and the said treasurer shall receive
three per centage on all moneys received and disbursed
by him.

Duty of collec-
tor.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the collector for said county, to collect the amount of
the assessment for the use of primary schools, and to pay
the same over to the treasurer; and the said collector
shall receive, for making such collections, the same per
centage as may be allowed by law for the collection of
other county charges, and the official bond of said col-
lector shall be responsible for all moneys collected under
the provisions of this law.

Judges to ask
voter whether
for or against
this act.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That at the next election
of delegates to the General Assembly, for Queen Anne's
county, every voter, when he offers to vole, shall be re-
quired by the judges of election to state, whether he is
for or against the provisions of this act, and the judges
shall record the number of votes for and against this act,
and the presiding judges, at the time of making return of
delegates to the General Assembly, shall ascertain and
report to the levy court of said county, the number of
votes for and against the provisions of this act, and if a
majority shall be in favor of this law, then and in that
case this said act shall be valid, otherwise of no effect
whatever.

tion.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That if this act shall go
into operation, the sum apportioned to the primary school
district comprehending the town of Centreville, shall be
paid to the trustees of the Centreville Academy, until a
primary school shall be established in said district; the
trustees receiving into said academy, free of charge, such
poor white children in the district as may be sent to said
academy.
