1806.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the commissioners of the tax for
Allegany county, or a majority of them, are hereby directed and required, to cause to be inserted
in such news-papers of Frederick-town, Baltimore and the eastern shore, in the spring or summer
months, as they shall think proper, necessary and sufficient, an advertisement of a general nature,
merely giving the names of the persons owing, and of whom taxes are claimed, which shall be in-
serted once a week at least, for five weeks, in such news-papers as before are ordered to be directed,
notifying all said persons holding lands in Allegany county, and residing out of said county, unless
the county charges due on the lands held by such persons shall be paid to the collector of Allegany
county, or his agent, within the space of sixty days after the publication of the notice aforesaid is
completed, the land so charged as aforesaid, or such part thereof as may be necessary to raise the
sum due thereon, shall be sold to the highest bidder tor the payment of the same, and the land so
sold, the commissioners aforesaid are hereby directed, at their next usual time of making transfers,
to charge the same to the person purchasing.

LXII.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the collector of Allegany county shall be and he is hereby di-
rected to lodge with some agent or person in the city of Baltimore, (which agent or person shall
lake known to the said commissioners of the tax, and shall be by them named as so authorised in
the advertisements above directed, ) a list, expressing the name or names of such tracts of land, or
number or numbers of such lot or ills of land, together with the quantity of acres, as also the name
or names of the person or persons holding the same, on which county charges are due, and consi-
dered as coining under the general advertisement above directed, which person shall be authorised
to receive the amount of taxes by each person respectively due, as state- by said list, and receipt
or the same in the name o£ the collector of Allegany county.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That nothing in this act shall affect any tract or tracts of land, lot or
lots, granted to the officers and soldiers of this state, unless the same shall have been, or may here-
after be, sold or transferred by said officers and soldiers; and provided, that nothing herein con-
tained shall affect the rights of persons under the impediment of infancy, coverture, insanity of
mind, or actual imprisonment, or of citizens of the United States beyond the seas, until twelve
months after the removal of such disabilities.

V. AND BE IT ENACTED, That so much of the act to which this is a supplement as is inconsist-
ent herewith, shall be and the same is hereby repealed.

VI. AND BE IT ENACTED, That this act, and the act to which it is a supplement, shall be and
hey are hereby declared to be perpetual.

An ACT supplementary to the act for erecting a town in Talbot
county, and to the act for the regulation and improvement of
Easton,

Passed 4th of
Jan. 1807.

WHEREAS sundry inhabitants of Easton and Talbot county, by their memorial to this gene-
ral assembly have. represented, that in the year seventeen hundred and ninety-five, a certain
Robins Chamberlaine, of the said county, being the sole and absolute proprietor of a parcel of land
joining to the town of Easton, did cause the same to be surveyed and laid out into lots, streets
and alleys, with intent that the said surety should be annexed to, and made part of, the said town,
and placed under the jurisdiction and government of its commissioners, and that the said parcel of
land, since the said survey, hath been sold in various allotments to sundry individuals, who have
held and occupied the same, and erected many valuable houses and improvements thereon, under a
arm persuasion that the said streets and alleys would be kept open and preserved as common high-
ways, and that the said survey would be added to the said town, and have prayed that a law may bo-
pased for incorporating the said survey, and annexing the same to the said town of Easton, as a
part thereof, and for placing the same under the jurisdiction and regulations of its commissioners:
And whereas the objects of the said memorial appear to this general assembly to be reasonable and
useful; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED", by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the commissioners of the town of
Easton, or the major part of thtm, with all convenient speed after the passage of this act, shall
cause the said parcel of land to be surveyed and laid out according to the following metes and
