NOVEMBER. LAWS OF M A R Y LAN D.

are hereby declared to be divorced, a vinculo matrimonii, provided always, that nothing in this act
contained shall be construed to illegitimate any issue of the said Archibald Alexander and Susanna
his wife, born prior to this act.

C H A P. XXIV.

An ACT for the relief of William Thomas and John Carvil Hynson,
junior, of Kent county.

WHEREAS the said William Thomas and John Carvil Hynson, junior, by their petition to
this general assembly have prayed, that an act of assembly may pass, authorising them to
stop up so much of the old road leading from New-Market to Marche's lane as runs through their
farms, and a number of the citizens of said county, residing in the neighbourhood of the said peti-
tioners, have certified that they are acquainted with the subject of the said petition, and are of opi-
nion that the same is reasonable, and the prayer thereof ought to be granted; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the said William Thomas and John
Carvil Hynson be and they are hereby authorised to stop up so much of the old public road leading
from New-Market to Marche's lane as runs through the farms of the said William Thomas and John
Carvil Hynson, junior.

C H A P. XXV.

An ACT to authorise and empower the levy court of Baltimore
county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein
mentioned.

WHEREAS Nicholas Ryland, and Mary his wife, of Baltimore county, by their petition to
this general assembly hath set forth, that he, the said Ryland, is now upwards of eighty-
four years of age; that he has been confined to his bed for twelve years past with rheumatic pains;
that his limbs are drawn up and distorted from their usual shape, in so much that he is unable to
procure a subsistence; that he devoted the early part of his life to the service of his country, du-

ring the war called Braddock's, and that he there suffered much; and that; Mary Ryland, wife to
the said Nicholas, is now upwards of seventy-four years of age, very infirm, and much afflicted
with the palsy, and thereby rendered incapable of obtaining the smallest pittance for her support,
and praying that a law may pass authorising the levy court of Baltimore county to levy a sum of
money on the assessable property of said county for their support; and the same appearing reason-
able, therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Baltimore coun-
ty shall be and are hereby directed and empowered, at their levy courts annually, so long as they
shall see cause, to assess and levy on the assessable property of said county a sum of money, not ex-
ceeding sixty dollars, for the support and maintenance of the said Nicholas Ryland, and Mary Ry-

land his wife, and that the same be collected and paid annually by the collector or collectors of Bal-
timore county, agreeable to the order of the levy court aforesaid.

CHAP. XXVI.

An ACT to lay out and open a certain road in Harford county,

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of

Harford county, that the convenience of the public would be greatly promoted by the laying.
out and opening the said road; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That William Glenn, Shadrick Rutledge
and Joshua Guy ton, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners, to lay out and open a road,
beginning on the main road at Matthew Wiley's mill, on Deer creek, and from thence by the wi-
dow Barret's and Andrew Turner's till it intersects the public road leading from Black Hall to My-
er's mill, in the streightest and best direction that the nature of the ground will admit;, and the said
road, when so laid out and opened, shall for ever hereafter be deemed and taken to be a public high-
way, and kept in repair as other public roads in said county.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commissioners, or a majority of them, shall and they
are hereby directed and required to make, or cause to be made, a plot of the said road, and shall
make return of said plot, together with a certificate of the courses of said road, to the clerk of
Harford county, to be recorded among the land records of said county.
