(House Bill 599)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 2 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel County (1947 Edi-
tion), being Article 2 of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Anne Arundel County", said new
section to be under the sub-title "Sidewalks", and to be
known as Section 545A and to follow immediately after
Section 545, conferring powers upon the County Com-
missioners of Anne Arundel County relative to sidewalks.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section be and it is hereby added to
Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel
County (1947 Edition), being Article 2 of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Anne Arundel
County", said new section to be under the sub-title "Side-
walks", and to be known as Section 545A and to follow
immediately after Section 545, and to read as follows:
SIDEWALKS
545A. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel
County, in addition to, but not in substitution of, the powers
which have been or may hereafter be granted them, shall
have the express power to cause sidewalks along the public
streets and highways of said County, except in incorpor-
ated towns of said County, to be graded, paved, repaired
or improved at the cost and expense of the abutting real
property or the owner thereof; and to compel by fine or
otherwise the owner or proprietor of any lot or parcel of
land to pave or repair said sidewalks. It shall be the duty
of the County Commissioners, before proceeding to carry
out the provisions of this section, to notify every owner, in
front of whose property they propose to do any grading,
paving, repairing or improving of sidewalks and to allow
such owners thirty (30) days to perform such work under
the direction of the County Commissioners; but if such
owner or owners shall fail or refuse to complete said work
by the expiration of this period, then the County Commis-
sioners may perform such work and the cost thereof shall
be assessed against the owner or owners in front of whose
