THEODORE R. MCKELDIN, GOVERNOR 923

Public Works, a Deputy Director of Public Works and such
assistants, aides, clerks, stenographers and other field and
office help as, in the opinion of said County Commissioners,
may be necessary for the proper administration of the De-
partment of Public Works created hereunder. [The said
Chief Engineer shall have general educational equipment
at least equal to that of graduates of high schools] The said
Director of Public Works shall be a professional engineer
registered under the laws of this State.
The County Com-
missioners, when appointing a [Chief Engineer, ] Director
of Public Works,
shall give first consideration to the qualifi-
cations of those who are graduates in Engineering from a
recognized college or technical school of collegiate grade.
The said [Chief Engineer] Director of Public Works shall
be a person of broad experience and high standing in the
engineering profession, and shall have had responsible
charge of engineering works over a period of at least ten
years. If the person appointed as [Chief Engineer] Direc-
tor of Public Works
is not a graduate in engineering from
a recognized college or technical school of collegiate grade,
he shall have had not less than fifteen years' experience in
engineering, during ten years of which he shall have been
in responsible charge of the important engineering projects.
The Deputy Director of Public Works shall be a professional
engineer registered under the laws of this State.
All of
said employees, including the [Chief Engineer, ] Director
of Public Works,
shall be removable from office at any time
in the discretion of the County Commissioners of Baltimore
County and shall be paid such compensation for their serv-
ices as the County Commissioners of Baltimore County may
deem from time to time to be reasonable and proper, and
said County Commissioners are hereby authorized to levy
such sum or sums on the assessable property of Baltimore
County as shall be necessary to pay said salaries and ex-
penses.

[The organization of the Department of Public Works
shall consist of the Chief Engineer of Baltimore County as
President, and of the following County Offices which shall
be considered the sub-departments of the Department of
Public Works:

Roads Engineer

Building Engineer

Chief Sanitary Engineer of the Metropolitan District

Supervisor of Garbage and Cleaning

County Surveyor

Zoning Commissioner. ]
