of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 289
(Senate Bill 417)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 27 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Crimes
and Punishments", sub-title "Sabbath Breaking", said
new section to be known as Section 608A and to follow
immediately after Section 608 of said Article, authoriz-
ing the exhibition of motion pictures within the Frank-
lin District of Carroll County after 9 P. M. on Sundays;
to repeal all public general and public local laws incon-
sistent therewith to the extent of such inconsistency;
and to provide for a referendum vote thereon.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 27
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title
"Crimes and Punishments'', sub-title "Sabbath Breaking",
said new section to be known as Section 608A and to
follow immediately after Section 608 of said Article, and
to read as follows:
608A. Nothing contained in Sections 578 or 605 of
this Article shall be construed to prohibit or make unlaw-
ful the exhibition within the corporate limits &f- the Frank-
lin District in Carroll County of motion pictures after
9 P. M. on the first day of the week, commonly called
Sunday, whether the same be exhibited with or without
a charge or admission fee, provided, however, that such
exhibition shall be subject to all provisions of law relat-
ing to licensing and censorship applicable to motion picture
exhibitions on week days. The work or employment of any
operator, ticket seller or any other employees or attendants
in connection with any such exhibition of motion pictures
shall not be unlawful because performed on Sundays. Any
exhibition of motion pictures on Sundays, except as hereby
