CHAPTER 233
(House Bill 469)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
390 of Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wicomico County" sub-
title "Sheriff", said section having been enacted by Chap-
ter 778 of the Acts of 1947, providing for the amount of
the annual salary of the matron and cook to the county
jail of Wicomico County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That Section 390 of Article 23 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Wicomico County", sub-title "Sheriff", said section having
been enacted by Chapter 778 of the Acts of 1947, be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

390. The County Commissioners for Wicomico County
shall allow the Sheriff of Wicomico County each year: First
—the sum of [Twelve Hundred Dollars ($1, 200. 00)] not
less them One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1, 500. 00)
a year for matron service in managing the domestic
economy of the jail; Second—A sum not [exceeding [One
Thousand Dollars ($1, 000. 00)] less than One Thousand
Three Hundred Dollars ($1, 300. 00)
a year for a cook to the
jail; Third—The actual sum of money expended by the
Sheriff in purchasing food, necessary clothing, etc., for the
prisoners at the jail, which expenditures shall not exceed
Fifty Cents (50¢) per day for each prisoner, provided that
no allowance for such expenditures made by the Sheriff, as
aforesaid, shall be paid or credited to the said Sheriff or for
his account unless the same shall be reported under oath to
the County Commissioners at each month in writing, which
oath shall show all the expenditures and that they are cor-
rect and have been honestly and lawfully incurred under
each of the provisions as above set forth, and that the
Sheriff himself has not derived any profit from the pur-
chase thereof, that each expenditure and purchase was
reasonable and necessary and the price thereof was not in
excess of the market price, which said report and affidavit
