judges of the People's Court of Baltimore City shall have
power to fix and change the fees and costs therein, and
to alter and amend the figures specified in Section 444 (a),
in order to modify such fees and costs as necessary during
the period prior to the time at which the People's Court
of Baltimore City becomes a court of record. As of Janu-
ary 1, 1954 MARCH 31, 1955, the fees and costs specified
in Section 444 (a) AND SECTION 445 shall become fully
applicable, and there shall thereafter be no further power
in the judges of said court to fix, change, alter or amend
the said fees and costs.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety and having been passed by a yea and nay vote,
supported by three-fifths of all the members elected to
each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

CHAPTER 197
(House Bill 44)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 165 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments, "
sub-title "False Pretenses, " to provide that the People's
Court of Wicomico County shall have jurisdiction to
try and determine charges of violations of Sections 165,
167 and 169 of said Article 27.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 165 of Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Crimes and
Punishments, " sub-title "False Pretenses, " be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
