SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.

CHAPTER 155

(Senate Bill 87)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
36 of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Natural Resources", sub-title
"Water Pollution Control Commission", relating to the
issuance of rules and regulations by the Water Pollution
Control Commission.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 36 of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Natural Resources", sub-
title "Water Pollution Control Commission", be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

36. (a) It shall be the duty of the Commission to
study, investigate and from time to time recommend ways
and means of eliminating from the waters of the State,
so far as practicable, all substances and materials which
pollute or tend to pollute the same and to recommend
methods, as far as practicable, for preventing pollution as
defined in Section 34 of this sub-title.

(b) The Commission is hereby authorized to encourage
voluntary cooperation by the citizens of the State and by
the industries, municipalities, counties, metropolitan dis-
tricts and the State in restoring, preserving and maintain-
ing the purity of the waters of the State, for the greatest
benefit of all the people of the state; to coordinate and
stimulate the activities of the several State agencies now
concerned with water pollution; to enforce existing laws
