State of Maryland or this charter as it may deem necessary
for the good government of the city; for the protection and
preservation of the city's property, rights, and privileges;
for the preservation of peace and good order; for the se-
curing of persons and property from violence, danger, or
destruction; and for the protection and promotion of the
health, safety, comfort, convenience, welfare, and happi-
ness of the residents of the city and all persons therein.
ARTICLE III
THE MAYOR
Selection and Term:
341-19. The Mayor shall be elected as hereinafter pro-
vided and shall hold office for a term of two years or until
his successor is elected and qualified. The newly elected
Mayor shall take office on the second Monday following his
election.
Qualifications of Mayor:
341-20. The Mayor must have the same qualifications
for holding office as the Councilmen as hereinbefore pro-
vided.
Salary of the Mayor:
341-21. The Mayor shall not receive a salary for his
services, but he shall be entitled to an amount not to exceed
$200. 00 per year, which may be used by the Mayor to defray
the expenses incurred in performing his duties.
Mayor; Powers and Duties:
841-22. The Mayor shall be the Chief Executive Officer
of the city and head of the Administrative Branch of the
City Government.
The Mayor, with the approval of the Council, shall ap-
point and remove all officers and employees of the city to
the positions established by this charter or by ordinance.
The Mayor shall make an annual report to the Council of
the conditions of municipal affairs and make his recom-
mendations as he may deem proper for the public good
and welfare of the city.
The Mayor shall prepare or have prepared annually a
budget which he shall submit to the Council.
