immediately after Section 147 thereof and to be under the
sub-title "Practitioners of Medicine", providing for the
WRITTEN OR TELEGRAPHIC consent for a licensed
physician DOCTOR OF MEDICINE to conduct a post
mortem examination of the body of a deceased person.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 43
of the Baltimore City Code (1951 Edition), title "Health",
said new section to be known as Section 147A, to follow
immediately after Section 147 thereof, and to be under
the sub-title "Practitioners of Medicine", and to read as
follows:
147A. WRITTEN OR TELEGRAPHIC consent for a
licensed physician DOCTOR OF MEDICINE to conduct a
post mortem examination of the body of a deceased person
shall be deemed sufficient when given by whichever one of
the following assumes custody of the body for purposes of
burial; father, mother, husband, wife, child, guardian,
next of kin, or in absence of any of the foregoing, a friend,
or a person charged by law with the responsibility for
burial. A PERSON WHO ASSUMES THE DUTY OF
LEGAL DISPOSAL OF THE BODY. If two or more of
such persons assume custody of the body, consent of one
of them shall be deemed sufficient.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.
