state or political sub-division. For purposes of this section,
the Baltimore City police shall be considered police officers
of Baltimore City, and the term "police officer" shall be deemed
to include all persons charged with law enforcement. The
fiscal officers of the State or political sub-division, as the case
may be, shall forthwith or as soon as possible pay all just
claims made or judgments entered pursuant to this section
from funds within their control and available for such purpose.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.

CHAPTER 39
(Senate Bill 21)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
191A (a) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1947 Supplement), title "Public Education", sub-title
"Chapter 17. High Schools", providing that certain persons
residing on Federal reservations within the State of Mary-
land may obtain equivalent high school certificates, as
authorized by said section.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 191A (a) of Article 77 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Public Educa-
tion", sub-title "Chapter 17. High Schools", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
191A.
(a) Any person who has not obtained a high school cer-
tificate or diploma and who has resided in Maryland or on a
Federal reservation within the State of Maryland for at least
one year and (1) who is 19 years of age or older, or (2) who
is a member of the armed forces of the United States and is
17 years of age or older, may obtain an equivalent certificate
in accordance with this section.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.
