OF THE COMMISSIONER OF MOTOR VEHICLES IN THE
REGISTRATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRUCKS,
AS SPECIFIED IN THIS SECTION. The County Treas-
urers of Somerset County, Calvert County and Garrett Coun-
ty are hereby mandatorily directed to act as the agent of the
Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the registration of motor
vehicles of the Class A passenger or pleasure type and to issue
metal plates or markers, as hereinabove prescribed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 16
(House Bill 76)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 51
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Deputy Sheriffs",
providing that members of volunteer fire companies in Cecil
County may be designated and serve as deputy Sheriffs.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Section 51 of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Dep-
uty Sheriffs", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

51. The provisions of the foregoing sections in this sub-title
shall only apply to Baltimore, Cecil and Washington Counties,
but the powers conferred by virtue hereof upon members of fire
companies shall not apply or be exercised in incorporated
cities, towns or villages which maintain an organized or regu-
lar police force.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.
