amended by Chapter 30 of the Acts of 1948 (Special
Session) and 159 having been amended by Chapter 706
of 1943, relating to the appointment of a Deputy Treas-
urer, the bonds to be given by the Treasurer and the
Deputy Treasurer and the traveling expenses of the
Treasurer.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 154 of Article 8 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Cecil County, "
sub-title "County Treasurer, " as said section was amended
by Chapter 176 of the Acts of 1945, be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

154. (a) The legal and qualified voters of Cecil County
shall at the General State Election, to be held in the year
[1946] 1954, and every four years thereafter, elect some
person, a resident of said county, to be Treasurer of Cecil
County, whose duty it shall be to collect and disburse, upon
the lawful orders of the County Commissioners of [Cecil]
the County, all taxes levied in [Cecil] the County and for
this purpose he is clothed with all the powers possessed by
collectors of taxes under the provisions of the Code of
Public General Laws, and the persons elected to said office
under the provisions of this section shall hold said office
for four years from the first Monday in July succeeding
their election. [The Assistant Treasurer shall be elected
by the votes of the legally qualified voters of said county
whose term of office shall begin at the same time as that of
the Treasurer, and whose duties shall be such as may be
assigned to him by the Treasurer. ] On the expiration of
the term of the present Assistant Treasurer, the Treasurer
of Cecil County shall appoint a Deputy Treasurer, whose
duties shall be such as may be assigned to him by the
Treasurer.
The Treasurer [and Assistant Treasurer] and
[their] his [successors] successor in office shall [each]
execute to the State of Maryland a corporate surety bond
in such penal sum as the State Comptroller may prescribe,
with the condition that if the above bound Treasurer [or
Assistant Treasurer] shall well and faithfully execute his
office and shall account for to the Comptroller and pay to
the Treasurer of the State the several sums of money which
he shall receive for the State, or be answerable for by law,
at such times as the law shall direct, then the said obliga-
tion to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect,
and shall execute a bond to Cecil County in the penalty of
thirty thousand dollars, conditioned for the proper collec-
tion and disbursement of all moneys coming into [their]
