Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Governor and the Board of Public Works be and they are
hereby directed to reduce such items of appropriation as they
may deem most advisable in the budget for the next fiscal year
by amounts which will aggregate at least $1, 000, 000. 00, all in
conformity with and subject to limitations of Section 9 of
Article 15A of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

(House Joint Resolution 20)
House Joint Resolution requesting the Board of Public Works
to use the proceeds from the sale of Camp Ritchie for the
renovation and repair of the Washington County Almshouse
as a chronic disease hospital for Western Maryland.
WHEREAS, the Ritchie Hospital for chronic disease patients
will be lost to the State of Maryland when the pending sale of
Camp Ritchie to the Federal Government is consummated; and
WHEREAS, it has been the announced State policy that West-
ern Maryland be the location of a chronic disease hospital; and
WHEREAS, the loss of Ritchie Hospital will leave the State
without a chronic disease hospital in Western Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Washington County has proffered to the State of
Maryland its local Almshouse for use as a chronic disease
hospital and has tendered to the State of Maryland a deed of
valuable land and the existing building thereon for such
purpose; therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Board of Public Works be and it is hereby directed to set
aside and use any and all funds which remain in its hands
from the proceeds of sale of Camp Ritchie, under the terms
of Senate Bill No. 40 (1951 Session of the General Assembly of
Maryland), after it shall have set aside and used necessary
