twenty-one years, shall have power to make a deed of trust
of her property, real, personal, or mixed; provided, the same
shall be approved and sanctioned by a court having equity
jurisdiction in the city or county where the grantor resides,
upon the petition of said grantor, and such proof as the court
in its discretion may require.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.

CHAPTER 566
(House Bill 385)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 2B of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Alcoholic
Beverages", to be under a new sub-title "General Purposes",
said new section to be known as Section ½ and immediately
to precede Section 1 of said Article, declaring the legisla-
tive intent in the enactment of Article 2B.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supple-
ment), title "Alcoholic Beverages", to be under a new sub-
title "General Purposes", said new section to be known as
Section ½ and immediately to precede Section 1 of said
Article, and to read as follows:

GENERAL PURPOSES

½. It is hereby declared as the policy of the State that it
is* necessary to regulate and control the manufacture, sale,
distribution, transportation and storage of alcoholic beverages
within this State and the transportation and distribution of
alcoholic beverages into and out of this State to obtain respect
and obedience to law and to foster and promote temperance.
It is hereby declared to be the legislative intent that such
policy will be carried out in the best public interest by em-
