THEODORE R. MCKELDIN, GOVERNOR 1567
All suits and actions, both civil and criminal, pending, or
which may hereafter be instituted for causes of action now
existing or offenses already committed against any law or
ordinance repealed by this charter, shall be instituted,
proceeded with, and prosecuted to final determination and
judgment as if this charter had not become effective.
EXISTING LAWS
100. All laws in effect at the time this charter is
adopted relating or applicable to the Town of Mount Airy
which are not inconsistent with this charter shall remain
in effect until changed or repealed by the General Assembly
of Maryland.
EXISTING ORDINANCES
101. All ordinances, resolutions, rules, and regulations
in effect in the town at the time this charter is adopted
and which are not in conflict with the provisions of this
charter, shall remain in effect until amended, altered, or
repealed according to the provisions of this charter.
WOMEN
102. Women shall have equal privileges with men in
registering, voting, and holding town offices if they have
the same qualifications required for men. Whenever the
masculine gender has been used as to any registering,
voting, or holding town office, it shall be construed to
include the feminine gender.
MISDEMEANORS
103. Every act or omission designated as a misde-
meanor in this charter, unless otherwise provided, shall
be punishable upon conviction before any trial magistrate
or in the Circuit Court for the county within which the

dollars ($100. 00) or imprisonment for thirty days in the
county jail, or both, in the discretion of the court or trial
magistrate. The party aggrieved shall have the right of
appeal as is now provided under the general laws of the
state. Where the act or omission is of a continuing nature
and is persisted in, in violation of the provisions of this
charter or of any rules or regulations formulated here-
under, a conviction for one offense shall not be a bar to
a conviction for a continuation of the offense subsequent
to the first or any succeeding conviction.
