SALARY

21. The mayor shall receive a salary of five hundred
dollars ($500. 00) per year for his services.

POWERS

22. (a) The mayor shall see that the ordinances of the
town are faithfully executed and shall be the chief execu-
tive officer and the head of the administrative branch of
the town government. The mayor shall be responsible for
the administration of the town's affairs to the council and
to the voters of the town.

(b) The mayor, with the advice and consent of the
council, shall appoint all the officers and employees
(except the council secretary or the town clerk) of the
government of the Town of Mount Airy as established by
this charter or by ordinance of the council. All officers
and employees so appointed shall serve at the pleasure of
the mayor.

(c) The mayor shall have the power to veto ordinances
passed by the council as provided in Section 16.

(d) The mayor shall be the chief financial officer of the
town and shall be responsible for the financial administra-
tion of the town government.

ARTICLE IV
GENERAL POWERS
ENUMERATION

23. The Town of Mount Airy shall have the power:

(a) Amusements. To provide in the interests of the
public welfare for the licensing, regulating, or restraining
of theatrical or other public amusements.

(b) Buildings. To make reasonable regulations in re-
gard to buildings to be erected in the town, and to grant
building permits for the same; to formulate a building
code and a plumbing code and to appoint a building inspec-
tor and a plumbing inspector, and to require reasonable
charges for permits and inspections; to regulate and re-
strict the height, number of stories, and size of buildings
and other structures, the size of yards, courts, and open
spaces, and the location and use of buildings, structures,
and land for trade, industry, or residence; to establish
the distance buildings or any part thereof, fences, or walls
