43. Notice of Nomination by Election. A candidate
for a public office in the government of the City of Salis-
bury shall be deemed to have been nominated by primary
election when he, or someone in his behalf, shall file with
the city clerk, at least ten days prior to the time for hold-
ing the election at which he desires to be voted on, a cer-
tificate signed by the members of the Board of Supervisors
of Elections containing the name of the candidate and a
statement of his political affiliation, the office which he
seeks, and that he has been duly elected a candidate for
that office.
44. Nomination by Petition. A candidate for a public
office in the government of the City of Salisbury shall be
deemed to have been nominated by petition when he, or
someone in his behalf, shall file with the city clerk, at
least ten days prior to the time for holding the election at
which he desires to be voted on, a certificate signed by at
least four hundred qualified voters and containing the
name of the candidate, a statement of his political affilia-
tion, the office which he seeks, and that the persons sign-
ing the same intend to vote for the person named therein
for the office named therein.
45. Filing Fee. Every candidate for the office of
mayor, at the time of filing his notice of intention to be
candidate in a primary election or at the time of filing his
nomination petition, as above set forth, shall pay to the
city clerk the sum of twenty-five dollars ($25. 00). Every
candidate for the office of councilman, at the time of filing
his notice of intention to be a candidate in a primary elec-
tion or at the time of filing his nomination petition, as
above set forth, shall pay to the city clerk the sum of
fifteen dollars ($1500).
40. Election of Mayor and Council. On the first
FOURTH Tuesday, in May, APRIL, 1952, and on the same
day every four years thereafter, the registered voters of
the city shall elect three councilmen to serve for terms of
four years. On the first FOURTH Tuesday in May, APRIL,
1954, and on the same day every four years thereafter,
the registered voters of the city shall elect a mayor and
two councilmen to serve for terms of four years.
47. Notice of Elections. The Board of Supervisors of
Elections shall, by publication in one or more newspapers
published in the City of Salisbury at least ten days prior
to holding any general or special election, give notice
thereof, stating the object of said election and the time
and place and hours of the same.
