THEODORE R. MCKELDIN, GOVERNOR 1283

statement of the particular purpose of the meeting. This
provision for greater flexibility in the administration of
the secular affairs of such Parish or Separate Congrega-
tion, shall be an alternate authority and shall be exercised
only after the Congregation or Parish shall first by resolu-
tion have adopted and declared its intention of availing
itself of the provisions thereof. If and when such alter-
nate method of electing Vestries is adopted by any Parish
or Separate Congregation, the particular plan of procedure
with regard thereto shall be recorded in the official Reg-
ister of the Parish and be open to inspection at all reason-
able times by any member of the Parish or Congregation.

291D. The Rector of the Parish or the minister in
charge shall, in accordance with the Canons of the con-
vention of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the Diocese
with which the Parish or Separate Congregation is in
union, enroll any person in the Protestant Episcopal
Church who shall apply for the purpose on the books of
the Parish or Separate Congregation.

291E. And to perpetuate the continuity of the Vestry
in each Parish or Separate Congregation, upon the death
of any member of the Vestry, other than the Rector, or
resignation or refusal to serve of any Vestryman so
elected or other disqualification, the vacancy shall be filled
by the majority of the remaining Vestrymen serving in
office. Such successor so appointed shall serve until the
annual meeting of the Congregation on Easter Monday
or the vacancy may be filled by a separate specially called
meeting of the Church Congregation upon like ten days'
notice. On each succeeding Easter Monday there shall be
a congregational meeting upon like notice and if not then
held, then to be held on like notice as soon thereafter as
possible, for the election of Vestrymen to serve for the
ensuing year, and at such regular or postponed annual
congregational meeting, unless the congregation shall have
established otherwise by its by-laws an alternate method
of electing Vestrymen and their terms of office, four of
the eight Vestrymen then in office shall be voted out of
office by a majority vote of the qualified voters present at
such annual meeting, and four additional Vestrymen shall
be then elected by a majority vote to serve for the ensuing
year. The four Vestrymen so voted out of office shall be
eligible for re-election. And if the congregation has adopted
the alternate method above mentioned for the election and
tenure of office of Vestrymen, the latter shall be elected
in accordance with the plan and procedure adopted by
said by-laws.
