designated by the Mayor and Common Council, and notices of
such [places] place must be posted in three public places at
least ten days before said election. [Such polling places] The
polling place
shall remain open from 1 o'clock P. M. to 7 o'clock
P. M., or longer at the discretion of the Mayor and Common
Council. Such election shall be conducted by three judges and
two clerks to be appointed by the Mayor and Common Council
annually, and they shall each take the oath prescribed herein
for town officers.

(b) The said election judges and clerks shall be known as the
Board of Election Supervisors, shall serve without pay as such,
and shall meet on the first Monday of April of each year from
7: 30 to 10 o'clock P. M. for the purpose of receiving certificates
for nomination for Mayor and Councilmen, which said nomi-
nations shall be in writing, signed by not less than twenty
qualified voters of said town, and no signature shall be counted
if it be upon more than one nomination paper of a candidate
for Mayor, or upon more than [five] seven nomination papers
of candidates for Councilmen. No certificates of nomination
shall be received by the said Board of Election Supervisors
after the said meeting of the Supervisors for purpose of receiv-
ing such certificates of nomination, as hereinbefore provided
except that in the event of any vacancies occurring in nomina-
tions for Mayor and Councilmen, either by declination, death,
or any other cause, the same may be filled in the manner herein
provided, at any time prior to the Tuesday before the day of
any election, general or special, held hereunder. No names
shall be printed on the official ballot not presented to said
Board of Election Supervisors in the manner herein provided.

(c) Suitable ballot boxes and a polling [places] place shall
be provided by the Mayor and Common Council. Immediately
upon the closing of the polls the ballots shall be publicly
counted and the said judges shall make a true and correct
return of the votes so cast, shall seal the same and shall within
two days thereafter return the same to the Mayor and Common
Council or the Clerk thereof. Within ten days after said
election the Mayor and Common Council shall meet and can-
vass the said returns and shall declare those persons receiving
the highest number of votes for the respective offices voted
upon elected, and shall record a copy thereof among their
proceedings.

(d) In the event of a tie vote for any office, there shall be an
election on the fourth Monday in May for the office or offices,
so tied. The terms of all elective officers shall begin on the
first Monday in June next succeeding the election. The Mayor
and Councilmen elected in May, 1936, and those elected to fill
