1837.

the Treasurer of the State Colonization Society; and ,
shall further enter into bond to the State of Maryland,
in the penal sum of two thousand dollars, conditioned
for his good behaviour for twelve months, with securi-
ty to be approved by said clerk, which said bond upon
being forfeited shall he put in suit, and the penalty
thereof, recovered for the use of the State.

CHAPTER 118.

CHAP. 119.

An act to regulate the time of holding Elections in the
several counties and cities in this State.

Passed Mar. 1,

1838.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act
all elections throughout the several counties and cities
of this State, heretofore held on the first Monday in
October, shall hereafter be held on the first Wednesday
thereof, and be subject to the same rules and regula-
tions as heretofore provided by law.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the sheriffs in the several counties throughout the
State, to give public notice to the judges of said elec-
tions, and to the voters of said counties and cities, that
the said elections will be held on the first Wednesday
in October, instead of the first Monday thereof, annu-
ally as heretofore, and be governed by the same laws
as when held on the first Monday.

CHAPTER 119.

Sheriffs requir-
ed to publish.

An act to amend the first section of an act, entitled, an
act to establish Magistrates' Courts in the several
counties of this State, and to prescribe their jurisdic-
tion, passed at December session eighteen hundred
and thirty-jive, chapter two hundred, and one, so far
as relates to Cecil county.

1838.

WHEREAS, by an act of the General Assembly of
Maryland, passed at December session eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-five, chapter two hundred and one,
establishing magistrates' courts in the several counties
