WHEREAS, by the Declaration of Rights, all gifts,
sales or devises of land, exceeding two acres, to any
religious sect, order or denomination, for the support,
use or benefit of or interest for the same, are void
without the leave of the Legislature; and whereas, it
is represented to this General Assembly by the memo-
rial of the Rector and Vestry of Saint Mark's Parish,
in Frederick county, that in the erection of the church
in said parish, on a lot of ground belonging to the
same, which lot contained about one acre of land,
through mistake as to the true boundary of their lot,
the said church was placed about nine feet over the
boundary line of the original lot, thereby subjecting
the congregation to great inconvenience; and that in
consequence thereof the Rector and Vestry aforesaid
authorised Francis Thomas to purchase, in trust, a
piece of land adjoining the same for the use and ac-
commodation of the congregation, but he being unable
to purchase a less quantity than two acres and three-
eighths of an acre, and which were conveyed to Fran-
cis Thomas by Doctor Dorsey, trustee, of the real es-
tate of the late Thomas Hawkins; and whereas, the
aforesaid Rector and Vestry pray the Legislature to
pass a law to enable them to receive of Francis Thom-
as a deed of conveyance of the said two acres and
three-eighths of an acre, so purchased by him for
their use and benefit, and the same being considered
reasonable: — Therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the leave of the Legislature shall be, and is
hereby granted; and the said Francis Thomas shall
be, and he is hereby authorised and empowered to
| execute a deed of conveyance of the aforementioned
two acres and three-eighths of an acre of land, to the
Rector and Vestry of Saint Mark's Parish, in Freder-
ick county, and to their successors; and the said Rec-
tor and Vestry, and their successors, are hereby au-
