CHAP. 98.

from Anne Arundel county, and to pay the same over to
such person or the trustee of such person.

Officers to be
appointed.

Their jurisdic-
tion.

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That for the purpose of ad-
ministering justice and providing for the peculiar wants
and necessities in civil and police matters of the people of
the said district, there shall be appointed therein and there-
for, three judges of the orphans' court, justices of the
peace, trustees and other officers connected with primary
schools, all of whom shall be appointed in the same man-
ner in which such officers are now appointed in Anne
Arundel county; and such officers and authorities together
with such others as are mentioned, provided for or esta-
blished in this act and the act of eighteen hundred and
thirty-eight, chapter twenty-two, shall have and exercise
exclusive jurisdiction within the said district and over the
inhabitants thereof, in the same manner and to the same
extent as any of the aforesaid authorities or officers in
Anne Arundel county now may or can have or exercise
within their respective jurisdictions; subject, however, to
such alterations or additions as may be imposed upon any
of said authorities or officers.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That from and after the pas-
sage of this act, the members of the present board of com-
missioners of Anne Arundel county, who resided within
the limits of Howard district, shall cease to be members
of this board, except for the purpose of adjusting and set-
tling the liabilities of the county up to the time of the
passage of this act; and thereafter the said board of com-
missioners of Anne Arundel county shall consist of five
members, resident of the several election districts in said
county, without the limits of Howard district, who shall
have and exercise over the portion of Anne Arundel coun-
ty without the limits of said Howard district, all and sin-
gular the powers, privileges and duties, now vested in, or
required of the commissioners of Anne Arundel county.

Colonization

SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That the tax now levied on
Anne Arundel county for the purpose of colonization, shall
hereafter be apportioned, so that two-fifths thereof shall
be paid by Howard district, and three-fifths by the rest of
Anne Arundel county.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That there shall be ap-
pointed or elected for and established in Howard district,
and in a similar manner, unless by this act otherwise pro-
vided for, all such officers and authorities as are now ap-
pointed, elected and established in Anne Arundel county,
