CHAP. 145.

escaped from the jail of Washington county, in conse-
quence of its insufficiency to retain them securely therein.

CHAPTER 144.

1840.

An act to authorise the Commissioners of Cecil County to
levy a sum of money, to be appropriated to the erection of
a Bridge over the North East Creek, at or near Johnson's
Factory.

Levy to be made.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Cecil county at
their next annual levy, be and they are hereby authorised
and empowered at their discretion, to levy a sum of mo-
ney not to exceed four hundred dollars, on the assessable
property of said county, for the purpose of building a
bridge over the North East creek, at or near Johnson's
factory.

Commissioners

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of
Cecil county shall appoint three commissioners to contract
for or superintend the building of said bridge, who shall
five bond and security to be approved by the aforesaid
county commissioners.

Account of ex-
penses to be
rendered.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, Than when the bridge afore-
said shall have been completed, a true and faithful account
of all the cost and expenses shall be rendered to the coun-
ty commissioners by the aforesaid bridge commissioners,
or a majority of them, and then the county commission-
ers are hereby authorised to pay over to the said bridge
commissioners or their older the above mentioned ac-

dred dollars, including a reasonable compensation to the
aforesaid bridge commissioners for their services.
