tricts; and the said commissioners shall, under their hands
and seals, certify their proceedings, in pursuance of this
act, to the clerk of Anne Arundel county court.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the district thus form-
ed, which shall adjoin election district number two of
said county, shall hereafter be election district number
one, and the place of voting in said district shall be at
Butler's Tavern; and the other election district hereby
formed, shall be called district number eight, and the
place of voting in said district shall be at John S. E.
Nutwell's Store.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the judges of elections
for said districts shall be appointed at the same time when
the other judges of elections for said county shall be ap-
pointed.

Appointment
of judges.

A supplement to an act relating to Pensions by County As-
sessment, passed at December session eighteen hundred
and thirty-Jive, chapter three hundred and seven, so far
as the same relates to Charles County.

Passed Mar. 18,
1840.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
the trustees of the poor of Charles county, shall have full
power and authority to receive, and in their discretion, to
grant or reject applications from indigent and distressed
persons within said county for pensions; provided, that the
allowance to any one person, by said trustees, shall in no
case exceed the sum of thirty dollars per annum; provided
farther, that the gross amount of allowance by said trus-
tees, together with the allowance for the support of the
inmates of the poor house of said county, including all of
the incidental expenses of the same, shall not in any one
year exceed the sum of three thousand dollars.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the trustees of the poor of Charles county, on or before
the third Monday in June next, and annually thereafter, to
report to the levy court of said county, the probable
amount, in the judgment of said trustees, necessary for
the relief and support of the poor, both in and out of the
poor's house of said county, together with a statement in
writing, exhibiting each general item of expenditure and
