CHAP. 358.

Objects defined.

Under the general

law.

business and the said corporation, under the name and
style of the Hillsborough Silk Company, is hereby
invested with all the rights and privileges and powers,
conferred upon such companies, by an act entitled, an
act for prescribing general regulations for the incorpo-
ration of manufacturing and mining companies passed
December session eighteen hundred and thirty-eight,
and the said company is hereby made subject to the re-
strictions and regulations in said act.

Capital stock.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital stock of
said company shall not be less than one thousand dol-
lars, nor more than thirty thousand dollars, divid-
ed into shares of five dollars each, to he raised by
subscription, and that the said company shall have the

right to purchase and hold land, not exceeding five
hundred acres, in Caroline, Talbot and Queen Anne's
counties, or either of them;

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall be in
force from the passage thereof.

An act to incorporate the Western Coal and Iron Mining
Company.

Persons incorporat-

ed.

SECTION l. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That William Gwynn, Dennis A. Smith,
Sheppard C. Leakin, Charles F. Mayer, William
Eichelberger, of J. and all such other persons as may
be hereafter associated with them, shall be, and they
are hereby incorporated and made a body politic and
corporate, under the name and style of the Western

Coal and Iron Mining Company, for the purpose of
opening and working mines of coal, iron and other
minerals, the manufacturing and vending of the same,
and the making of, and the prosecution of such other
operations as may grow out of, or be connected with
the said business, and the said corporation, under the
name and style of the Western Coal and Iron Mining
Company, is hereby invested with all the rights and
privileges and powers conferred upon such companies
